¡NUEVOlution! Latinos and the New South

During the summer of 2015, Your Art | Our Craft was commissioned to produce seating for an exhibition at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Entitled " ¡NUEVOlution! Latinos and the New South", the exhibit  included videos, interactive displays and original artwork depicting how the fast-growing Latino population is shaping Southern culture,   The exhibition also considered the complex issue of identity and historic tensions accompanying immigration.   ¡NUEVOlution! won the 2016 MUSE Award, and later traveled to the Atlanta History Center and Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Authentic serapes initially were planned for the furniture project, but after consulting museum staff, a member of our design team, Steve Terry, was put in touch with  Venezuelan artist, Stanley Bermudez, whose pieces would be on display in the exhibition.   Stanley permitted our firm to use one of his paintings as the focal point of the furniture project.   For more information on Stanley or his art,  visit www.stanleybermudez.com
